25.04.2025

Bringing your family to live with you in the Czech Republic? This free guide walks you through the five key steps of the family reunification process – from understanding eligibility and financial requirements to preparing documents, booking embassy appointments, and getting ready for interviews. Whether you're just starting or already gathering documents, this guide is your practical companion on the road to reuniting with your loved ones.

Step 1: Find Out If You're Eligible

If you hold an Employee Card, Blue Card, Permanent Residence, or Long-term Residence in the Czech Republic, you may be eligible to apply for family reunification.

To be eligible, you must:

  • Hold a valid long-term residence permit or Employee Card in the Czech Republic.

  • Be able to demonstrate that you have sufficient income and housing to support your family members.

Understanding Proof of Funds

The Czech Ministry of the Interior requires proof that you have enough income to support each family member who will join you. The basic formula is:

Living Minimum (životní minimum) + Housing Cost per Person

For each family member, you'll need to prove approximately:

  • Living minimum: 4,860 CZK/month per adult

  • Housing cost: around 8,000 CZK/month (depends on region and size of household)

Examples of Proof of Funds Calculation

Example 1: Couple (Applicant + Spouse)

  • Living minimum = 4,860 CZK (applicant) + 4,360 CZK (spouse)

  • Housing cost = approx. 10,000 CZK/month

  • Total needed income per month: ~19,220 CZK

Example 2: Family of Three (Applicant + Spouse + One Child)

  • Living minimum = 4,860 CZK (applicant) + 4,360 CZK (spouse) + 3,490 CZK (child)

  • Housing cost = approx. 12,000 CZK/month

  • Total needed income per month: ~24,710 CZK

These numbers are updated periodically. We can help you calculate your exact required income based on your situation.

What If You Don't Have Enough Income?

If your personal income is not sufficient, you may still qualify by:

  • Combining your income with your spouse's income (if they already live in the Czech Republic).

  • Submitting proof of savings.

  • Presenting a signed accommodation agreement that shows you have housing without high costs.

We will guide you through all options and help you build a strong case.

Step 2: Prepare the Required Documents

You'll need to collect personal documents, confirmations of accommodation, financial proof, and relationship documents like marriage or birth certificates. We help you check and prepare everything to avoid delays and rejections.

Accommodation Proof

Proof of accommodation must show that your family members will have a place to live in the Czech Republic. We assist you in preparing the correct format that the immigration office will accept.

Step 3: Submit the Application

We will fully assist you in the preparation of your family reunification application. This includes preparing all required documents, drafting a detailed introductory letter for the Czech Embassy, booking the appointment at the embassy, and organizing a complete and professionally structured application file ready for submission.

Step 4: Get Ready for the Interview

Some embassies conduct interviews to confirm family relationships. We offer full interview preparation, including practice calls, guidance on the most common questions, and tips on what to avoid saying and what to emphasize. We also advise what basic information about the Czech Republic you should learn beforehand to feel confident and ready.

Step 5: Wait, Support, and Celebrate

Once the application is submitted, the waiting period begins. Decisions can take 60 to 270 days depending on the case. We provide ongoing support during this time until your family gets their visa and joins you in the Czech Republic.
